ET barns
But it was a pleasant day in ET. In our area there are many small farms but on the way to Sweetwater in McMinn county there are even many more small farms. One thing I have always loved about this area is the timelessness of it and the history that is all around us. As we were driving along I noticed the old barns. Who knows how long they have been sitting there unnoticed just doing their little barn job. Most of the local barns are called "Cantilevered barns" something that is unique to our area http://blueridgegazette.blogspot.com/2006/08/cantilevered-barns-of-east-tennessee.html and absolutely a part of our heritage I would hate to see disappear. Anyway, somewhere on Hwy 58 between Roane County and McMinn County sat this little hardworking fellow---doesn't she look tired? You can tell she has sheltered many animals and humans and worked hard. A older lady who has worked hard for a long time...like many of the women I have known in my life

Good Ol' Days Diner
What a beautiful sunset. Mark took this picture from the door of the diner. He thought it looked like a Indian arrowhead--- I think it looks like a fish
This is one of our favorite places to eat. This is a small place near home that has great food. They have been open about six months. They have the best burgers in Roane County. They also have great desserts..but have only managed to eat dessert once because the food is so filling. If you ever make it to this part of the country---Stop here for good eats!

inaguration day and more snow
This afternoon I, along with many million others, watched the inauguration of the 44th president. I didn't vote for Obama. I am thankful to all those who made it so i can make my choice and even say it out loud (all of the men and women who went to war and fought for my freedom of speech, thought and word)..but i am a proud American so I watched the inauguration on TV...and I have now watched it again about 40 times because that is all that is on network TV. And since I am a proud American i will support the new president with all that I am-- hoping to make a better/stronger more peaceful and prosperous USA
this is the TV in my sewing/scrappy office

grrrr CPC..what was I thinking?
today's picture is the solidly frozen pond with icicles... if you look really closely you can see little birdy footprints on the ice.We poured some water out there for them and hence the icicles. They seemed to love the water while it was still liquid. Then I tried to get Maggie to go out and stand on the ice but that didn't work--her feet were cold LOL--but we did see the thermometer all the way up to 34 F at one point

Panda Buffet
well today was very cold as well.... I meant to get a picture of the pond again but it got to late before I thought of it again. I went out to check this afternoon sometime, thinking that in the afternoon it might be thawed a little, to find that the shallow end was frozen solid. I even stepped on it and it didn't budge. And the ice crystals in the yard are even longer-- maybe those will be my photos for tomorrow if I get up early enough.... heck is is supposed to get to 29 or 30 tomorrow so it may melt if I don't get up early LOL
Mark and I went out to dinner tonight with Mark and Lois to the Panda Buffet in LC. I cant believe I have finally gotten my Mark to go to a Chinese buffet and actually like it--and not complain the whole time. Heck I even saw him with some Beef and broccoli and teriayki chicken on his plate. The only reason he went the first time was that Mark and Lois picked that place.. and Lois assured him they had good 'ol American food as well as Chinese and on Friday night all the crab legs you can eat.
so that is the best I can do for my pic of the day-- the Panda Buffet--and I didn't even get a pic of the food or the people--sigh--failure alreadyThursday, January 15, 2009

pondering--TVA, new baby, boring day, Judi
- to the post office to mail Katie's January package
- to the Barrel for dinner (and to buy a special tiny girl a 1st birthday gift from her grandparent's)
- on to WalMart (I HATE going there but it is the only larger store in this county) to get a refund for something they overcharged me for ..and a few essentials like cat food and water and milk
- to the drug store for a refill and
- then home
to ponder Vicki's new blog entry and the pictures of the TVA disaster --check out the bottom of her blog
need to make a new baby card for Alison and Aaron at church (and big sister Gracie) who are the proud parents of a new baby boy who will be baptized on Sunday... What a wonderful time of life for a family. A new life to nurture and love and teach. To see all things new again. To have all the experiences that come with a new baby. A manifestation of a love between a man and woman. What a lovely time of life.
Judi is making amazing recovery. i talked to her today and she is driving and doing great. She got a new car and it is perfect for her. I told her today that her guardian angel did a good job that day---- She is blessed and obviously still has work to do here.

cranberry relish
Cranberry Relish
Preparation time: 15 minutes.
Ingredients
2 cups washed raw cranberries
2 skinned and cored tart apples
1 large, whole (peel ON) seedless orange, cut into sections
1 to 2 cups granulated sugar (depending on how sweet you would like your relish to be) I use less
Grind all fruit If you don't have an old-fashioned grinder you can use a grinder attachment on a KitchenAid mixer, you can chop by hand (though that will take a lot of work), or you can chop in a food processor (be very careful not to over-pulse, or you'll end up with mush).
Mix in the sugar. Let sit at room temperature until sugar dissolves, about 45 minutes. Store in the refrigerator.
Makes about 3 cups.

so.... here I sit
Wouldn't you know it is just in time for me to feel crafty. i have managed to stamp two cards with my left hand (which is really hard for me). and looked at lots of ideas. Everyone had virtual stamp nights last night. The days after Christmas and before my surgery I cleaned up my computer/scrappy room. Got rid of tons of stuff (gave it to Katie or someone else) and organized so I can play again and actually find things i know i have.
The only other thing i have been doing is eating --- here is one of my new favorites
Firecrackers
1 ½ cup olive or canola oil
1 pkg. Dry ranch dressing
1-2 tablespoons crushed red pepper
6 sleeves (or so) Zesta saltine crackers
place crackers -standing on skinny end- in a large container (the container should be just about as tall as the crackers are tall ). Mix all other ingredients together and drizzle mixture over crackers. Flip container upside down every 15 minutes for 8 hours to make sure all the crackers are soaking up the goodness. . Serve with your favorite dip, cheese or topping
